Perhaps you heard in the news about the 2025 closure of The Elkhart Clinic. Can you believe it was closed down twice? Elkhart County is impacted by pollution concerns beyond what has been officially designated as either an EPA Superfund Site or a Brownfield site. At ECEC, we prioritize highlighting ways in which residents living near these other locations may be put at-risk or are already experiencing impacts that may be related to their proximity to the polluted sites. In some cases, pollution plumes have been migrating underground in directions that impact residential neighborhoods. Gases have been known to travel through the porous soil to become trapped inside of residential homes at levels that can exceed safe limits for human exposure. In other cases, pollution plumes have migrated into groundwater that impacts the wells that residents use as drinking water. If you have additional information or concerns about how residents are being impacted at these locations, please contact us.
